SQL Server version

Setting up Sharepoint 2013 requires SQL server 2008 R2 (SPI) – (standalone or farm installation):

The ERRORLOG (C:Program FilesMicrosoft Office Servers15.0DataMSSQL10_50.SHAREPOINTMSSQLLog) provides the version information: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1) – 10.50.2500.0 (X64)

Use SQL Server Management Studio to retrieve the version is another option (SQL management studio is not part of the SQL Express version):

Is there a reason, why Microsoft doesn’t add any version information to filenames; all filenames are named e.g. “SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU” ? Version details in file properties:

After having reinstalled SQL server 2008 R2 I I received an error “The directory name is invalid” when running “Sharepoint Product Configuration Wizard” // does applying SPI require a restart (which helped) // log file locked ?
