Lotus
The Q1 Role Model for Lotus is an ISSL practitioner who has continually delivered ‘high performance’ under duress for a sustained period.
ISSL works in a ‘high performance’ environment and at the peak of technical skills. However, it also takes a level of personal maturity, self-awareness and forward planning to ensure that emotional and physical well-being is also properly managed in these situations. This is needed to maintain a healthy balance for the ‘technical marathon’ that many of our projects have become.
Bernhard Hensler from the ISSL Switzerland team has been a key member of the Swiss Re WCM implementation team since 2006 (along with many other talented technical people). Bernhard has worked many long hours under difficult technical and commercial pressures to ensure forward movement within the project.
Bernhard also worked with his managers (Regula Wagner and Brenda Elshaw) to ensure that he managed his time and workload to maintain a healthy balance without impact to the project. ‘Stand-ins’ were provided and this also enabled the customer to be aware of and avoid a ‘single point’ dependency on Bernhard’s skills.
It is notable that Bernhard has avoided falling into any period of extended sick-leave due to his mature, self-aware approach and the insightful support from his managers.
I am pleased to nominate Bernhard for this month’s role model – the technical pressures are ever present, but with careful management, personal high performance and emotional and physical well-being can be maintained.
